Long Days and Insomnia

In bed after midnight last night, up at 4:00 this morning. Yeesh. Insomnia.

It's been a very long day. We are in the middle of Final Exams week and there are lots of little things to be done, including attacking that pile of papers that I cannot procrastinate on any longer.

After an 11 hour work day, it is all done. Grading, course assessment report, lab cleaned, office cleaned, last exam written and printed, ready to be taken tomorrow @8:30 AM. Excel spreadsheet waiting for one last column of numbers (Final Exam Grade) before it churns out the final letter grade. An incredible feeling of accomplishment, but also one of utter exhaustion. I managed a brief nap when I got home, but if I nap for more than 45 minutes, I'll be up all night tonight.

And the holiday/end of semester events roll on. Tonight we have a "Breakfast Under the Stars" study break for the students. I volunteered for the late shift (10PM - midnight), serving breakfast to frenetic students. It is fun, but a bad night to have insomnia. At least I know I'll sleep well tonight, but it is an early alarm clock for the exam tomorrow. Although after turning in my final grades tomorrow, I am free for the holidays. Break goes until 1/12/04, but I am on sabbatical next semester, so I guess I should quit whining.

I am so impressed with teachers like you who are so organized. I guess you have to be to stay sane, but it is still impressive.

And I hope we will read lots of good things from you while you are on sabbatical. Or are you going to some exotic locale to write and drink Mai Tais?
