Cold Days and Comfort Foods
It has been seriously cold here for the last few days. Days that take your breath away. Days that have you thinking "cold cold cold cold cold" as you wait and watch the dogs outside for mere microseconds, before sprinting to the back door. Nights that make you happy for the electric matress pad. And mornings that make you whimper at the thought of leaving a cozy bed.
Anyhow, with no real reason to get out of bed this morning (other than a brief few minutes to feed and water the dogs), I lay there and thought about the day. No plans. Sweet.
Suddenly, for no reason, it came to me. Chicken Soup. Oh man, what a great idea. Chicken soup for dinner tonight. What a perfect idea for a lazy day. Now, what kind of chicken soup? Rice (wild), noodles, beans, matzoh, dumplings? I decided to wait until I made it to the market before I decided.
It ended up being noodle. I found orzo in the market. I was looking for a good baguette, there was none, but I did manage to find a nice Parmesan focaccia.
Best thing in the world for a cold day. The soup was delicious with the toasted focaccia. My secret: a bit of garam masala in with the rest of the spices. And the bonus is that I have leftovers for lunch this week.

Sounds delicious. We usually go for homemade chili down here the few times it gets really cold.
