Interview Club
From Twilight Cafe: Alicia is continuing the Interview Club.
See my interview from Alicia below. Then...
THE RULES!
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.
Questions from Alicia for Me:
1. What is something most people don't know about you?
That I am probably an artist at heart. An aquaintance once told me that I was an artist trapped in a chemist's life.
2. What new thing would you like to learn to do?
I want to spend more time learning all of the surrounding technologies/languages/structures to making computers do exactly what I want them to do. The short list: perl, php, java and javascript, mySQL, more hardware background (perhaps A+ for grins and giggles) and design.
3. What do you like best about yourself? Least about yourself?
Best: my intellect, curiosity, and willingness to experiment and play with ideas. Least: this lumpy body.
4. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything? If so, what and why?
Interesting thought, and one explored by one of my favorite books: Replay, by Ken Grimwood. The question implies that I would have all the knowledge I have now. Yes, I'd go back...wouldn't everybody? I think my high school and college careers would have been radically different. I'd be less worried about doing things that my peer group approved of and more interested in developing skills and abilities that would endure. Less wasting time. More introspection. Different studies and majors. I love what I do now, but would have approached a lot of it differently. And yes, I'd have manipulated the stock market with my knowledge to be much more finanacially well off than I am now. If you've ever thought about this idea at all, read the book I linked to. It is fascinating!
5. What song best represents who you are right now?
"The Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley. Amazing lyrics. I've posted about some them before here: "What I am Thinking About".
So, if you want an interview, leave me a comment, with your web address, if you have one. See rules above.

Seeing as one of the things which makes me most uncomfortable in this world is answering questions about myself, I thought I'd set out to find someone willing to interview me. Keith of RandomThinks has rather kindly answered my call. [Read More]

Hi Doc, interview me! I've been enjoying reading your site. I first learned about you in the TypePad User Group. I think maybe lyou answered a question of mine.

Great answers, Doc! I started reading Replay a couple of years ago and had to return it to its owner before I finished. I never had picked it up again but you have reminded me now that I ought to.
There was a TV program with John Cusack that was kind of the same thing, except he bopped back and forth in his life rather than living each time to the end of it. I forget what it was called, but when the song "Let My Love Open The Door" by Pete Townsend played, he was brought back to the present.
