Getting Back to Normal?
Things are kind of settling in to the summer groove. The odd projects, the late night walks with the dogs, avoiding my office like the plague, the occasional meeting or project.
It seems like the blogosphere has been relatively quiet as well. Granted, I've been preoccupied with a new toy (Go Beaker!), but it seems like lots of bloggers are taking more time away from the computer and doing something else. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Actually, it seems to be a good thing to do...occasionally
With the Memorial Day Holiday coming up, I am looking forward to the wedding of a close friend. Michael is getting married for the second time. Michael is close in age to my dad (who is going on 62), and has been divorced for a long time. He has been seeing Janice, a wonderful retired public school teacher, for about 5 years, and they have decided to tie the knot. Makes me feel there is hope for me yet.
I am also getting ready for my annual trip to Clemson, SC to read (grade) AP Chemistry Exams. I really enjoy doing this. It is an 8 day commitment to reading thousands of exams for 8 hours a day, but I have made some good friends there, and the money is decent. I drive down, instead of flying, so I can take the creature comforts with me...and to avoid the hassle of flying (airport parking; limited luggage; bus ride from airport).
Creature comforts: my own pillows; my laptop; my golf clubs. We get out at least twice to play on Clemson's Walker Golf Course, which is absolutely awesome.
This also means that I am a pretty popular guy around the "reading". Clemson is a pretty boring little town, and having transportation means we can escape. Usually not too far, but with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban opening Friday night the 4th, I can expect I'll fill my car for a ride to Anderson, to the multiplex.
So...things are coming back to "normal", whatever that looks like.

I am a pretty fussy guy when it comes to the whole pillow thing. I figure if I am going to be gone for 8 days, working 8 hours a day, that I want to be able to get a good nights sleep, which is best accomplished with said pillows.
Also, it is good to be able to take a cache of Diet Pepsi down south, where they are (way too) serious about their Coke products.

sounds like a fun trip...in your new car too! how long a drive is that for you?

OK...ok.
First Doc...I live about an hour from Clemson..and have a very good friend who works security at Clemson...so watch it with those southern jokes. I'll have you thrown in a good southern pokey before you know it. *laughs*
Second..yeah..Clemson is a very quiet town...but there is plenty to do there if ya know who to ask!! *hint hint* Take a ride up here to the mountains and see the waterfalls! Less than an hour's drive.
Third. Coke? YUK! All good southerners drink Diet Pepsi. We just call it coke. Doesn't matter what kind of soda you drink here in the south..it is called a coke. Mountain Dew, Coke, Sprite, Pepsi..whatever. You want a true sense of the region? Get you an RC and a Moonpie for a snack. Drink the sweet tea with supper. Yes...we eat supper here. Dinner is the noon meal. For a bit of trivia, if anyone offers you a "dope"...that is also a coke. They've been called dopes in the South for as long as I can remember.
