Help Me Name My Car: A Random Thinks Contest
Well, I have had my car for 6 days now and I still cannot think of an appropriate name for her, so I decided to have a naming contest. Please help me think of an appropriate name for my new Honda Element.
This is the first pic I have snapped that shows off her Sunset Orange Pearl color.
My thoughts have been running in several different directions for names. Some info to maybe help you:
- I am a chemistry professor, now driving an "Element", so science puns/names may work.
- She is a quirky, boxy kind of car, so there is always room to improvise there.
- She is very versatile, utilitarian, and fun to drive.
- She is a rather pretty orange, so color themed names might work as well.
I will leave this contest open until Midnight Sunday. Enter your suggestions/entries (a rationale for your choice will be helpful as well) into the contest as comments to this post.
The prize for the winning entry: a $25 Gift Certificate to amazon.com, and my gratitude for playing along with this contest.

I'd suggest you name it either "29" or "Cu" for fairly obvious reasons. :-D

How 'bout Orangeonium?

"Lehrer", as in the German word for teacher and as in the inimitable Tom Lehrer, creator of "The Elements" [http://www.privatehand.com/flash/elements.html]
It even fits on a vanity plate...
You owe me three quatloos.

"Anomaly"...call her Ano for short.
From the standard definition of the word...She is a deviation from the normal for cars. You have expressed yourself that she is difficult to classify...car or truck? Also from the definition...(linking to science here with astronomy)...The angular deviation, as observed from the sun, of a planet from its perihelion.
"as observed from the sun" - She is the color of the sun!

Sonora-has a feminine touch and it's where they find copper: "The typical Arizona copper deposits originate from the middle Mesozoic to early Cenozoic with igneous intrusions that are characterized as a porphyry copper. Although concentrated in Arizona similar intrusions produced ore deposits in New Mexico and Sonora, Mexico." Sounds better than West Jordan-where I live under the big Kennecott copper mine.
Or...maybe Ken-short for Kennecott.

What about Lucy? I have an SOP also but I think mine is a boy and I named him Spike.

How about Frieda. Do you remember the little red head girl from Peanuts? Her name was Frieda.

"Celeste" or "Celestine" after the orange-colored mineral:

I was thinking Bunsen, like in burner, but it wasn't feminine enough. So how about Kippy like in Kipp's apparatus?
Posted by: erika's daddy at May 19, 2004 8:39:17 AM
How about;
LEMNTAL- Elemental
JUKEBOX- For your iPod
CHEMBOX- Chemical Box
CHEMIST- Not too original though.
BEEKER- I like that one!
A12O3- Chemical makeup of Boxite! Get it?
PERIODC- Periodic
Sorry, I just love doing these!:-)

since you see "her" as a female and apparently as an entity rather than a thing, some of the previous suggestions don't fit.
i think you should call her "pumpkin" based on her orange and gray (and black) theme and because pumpkin sounds more feminine. if you grow to really like her, then she becomes the great pumpkin. :)

mole-y, who wouldn't love to have a mole's worth of something that cool

Bon? Bonnie, affectionately. Your car, bon...
or Bun...short for Bunsen and also, your car, bun.

Here is my list, I've e-mailed them to you, but I figured I should officially enter the contest the 'blog' way.
RT - short for Random Thinks
Heisenberg - although not female in nature, he has that whole randomness principle.
You thought of Punkin, which I feel is a great nickname
Mich Van Der OaKgan - which contains all the letters for the appreviations of the states you have lived in (this time I included Oklahoma!) and since you have lived in Michigan twice, gan is on the end.
I'm still for MIPPY, which is a fun little abbreviation for Microwave Induced Plasma.
There is always the infamous Moose Mobile, but that is rather silly.
And I think that might be about it for my entries. Here is hoping I win!

Marie, as in Marie Curie
Carl-I know, not feminine in the least, but he's a genius with access to extremely volatile chemicals

here is my official entry as well, since i only emailed you earlier this week -- i still go with beaker, even though it is male, not female -- just the first thing that popped in my mind with chemistry and the car color -- i was always a big muppets fan
