Jesus is a Republican...Who'da Thunk it?

Was reading over at Daryl's place and saw this: "Vote Republican for strong schools, help for needy".

It would seem to imply that Jesus was a Republican. To whit:

"Compassionate conservatism is more than a slogan. It is the directive given by Christ throughout the New Testament. Christians are required to help those in need. Republicans prove their compassion through action. We tithe to our churches, we donate to worthy charities and we fund government programs through taxes."

Read the rest of the article at the link above. Personally, it seems to me that the author of this piece was smoking crack (a decidedly un-Republican thing to do, IMO).

Also, the Republican Party was not founded until 1854, long after Jesus did his thing. Don't trust me on this one? Check out this article at History Today: The Republican Party Founded.
