Thanks for Your Concern
Thank you for all the comments and emails I've received wishing me well with the whole "hedgeclipper manicure" thing. You folks out there in cyberspace have shown more sympathy and concern, by and large, than many of my friends out there in physical space. My friends Kevin and Mike have given me a week's "pass" on the jokes, and for that I am grateful.
Granted, I think all the teasing I have put up with from my pals around here is indeed concern and sympahy under a layer of sarcasm and jokes. I've been told that I'll have the perfect finger for picking my nose, and a few other less pleasant things...
I am doing OK, all things considered. I am trying to avoid the pain meds during the day as they wipe me out. I am becoming pretty adept at the one handed bandage change and wound cleansing. I am not nearly so creeped out by the way the cut looks anymore.
I am also learning exactly how all of the muscles in the arm and hand interact. It is interesting to see how many small movements of my arm extend all the way down into the muscles in my hand, causing significant twinges into the stump of my index finger. I have also become much more aware of how often I would otherwise tap or bump my fingers into things, even while sleeping. I am avoiding those things quite well now.
So...thanks for the kind wishes. I am doing OK and am going to be fine.

Pooh! What were you thinking? I'm very sorry to hear about your finger. It was a good finger. I have a somewhat similar story, although I just nipped the tip with the electric grass clippers. It hurt like the dickens too, but did not require a trip to the ER. I hope you feel better soon. Just don't type anything that uses the letters RTFGVB, okay?
hugs!

P.S. I found a wonderful shirt for you at Target today, it is bright orange and has BEAKER on the front. It was cool. I almost bought it for me, but it would clash with what is left of my hair!
