Zeus'-Eye View of the Olympics

olympic_park

A satellite view of the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens. This is where most of the events are taking place. You can see the construction is still going on. Pic was taken on 6/12/04 by the QuickBird satellite and comes courtesy of sciencephotolibrary.

Are you watching the games? I am. Pretty cool so far. Opening ceremony was very cool. I've really enjoyed the beach volleyball and swimming so far. I caught some gymnastics before bed last night and the venue was nearly empty. I guess gymnastics are not as popular in Greece, and also there is some sort of religious holiday now for the Greek Orthodox Church.

I missed the opening ceremonies but I just caught the mens basketball loss to puerto rico. Embarrassing. The only thing I'm really looking forward to is the swiming event with Ian Thorpe (Australia) vs. Phelps.

Yeah...attendance has been sparse at best. I watched the men's hoops team collapse...brutal stuff. I've missed the beach v-ball...need to catch some of that. Have mostly been watching gymnastics (men and women) and the occasional swimming events.
