Christmas List

Myfi OK, so it is getting to be that point in the year when I have a little free time to get ready for the holidays. I am putting together the Christmas Shopping list for the family, trying to get everyone something they'd like, and that I can afford. It has been a good year for me, so the list is a little longer than usual. My friend Kevin and I are heading out this weekend to do battle with the throngs of consumers. Although I do a lot of shopping online (Amazon.com is truly king), I still don't quite feel like it is Christmastime until I have waded through a mall or two.

I already ordered my new iMac, and while that is certainly a present, it is also a useful tool, and will be housed at work, so it does not really count as a Christmas present.

What I am currently drooling over in a big way is the new portable XM satellite radio (see pic). I currently have an XM system, but it is certainly not portable, and it is a bit of an effort to move it around between car and home, not to mention the office. It is also somewhat ungainly to operate in the car.

The new myfi system should be much better to accomplish what I want it to do, with the added bonus of being able to go outside along with me for a walk. The added added bonus is that it is a recorder as well. I can store up to five hours of programming on it for later use. This comes in handy for the great concerts XM broadcasts, as well as the weekly "Standup Sitdown" comedy interviews that one of the stations does. Timeshifting radio: what a concept.

So...if there are any rich angels out there who want to buy me an expensive ($350) toy, drop me a line, otherwise I'll have to wait and see what Santa brings.

I can't tell you how tempted I am to buy one of these. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Hell will freeze over and I'll win one from XM.

I may get you one, but it could take me a while to get it tested, wrapped, and sent. The testing process can be quite lengthy.

Is it niaive to think the price of these will fall by this time next year? Or will XM stand on their price the way Apple/HP stands on the iPod's price?
