It's Baby Time
I am in the cafeteria of the University of Michigan Medical Center, posting this while I take a quick lunch break from the Labor and Delivery Room. For those of you who did not know, my wife Susan is pregnant with our first child (a daughter), and we are going through the process of inducing labor. This is the only place in the entire medical center where there is guest wireless access. I am posting progress (or lack thereof) on randomthinks sister site:keithandsusan . Check it out if you are interested, and wish us luck!

Teaser: New Dog
Susan and I brought this guy home on Sunday May 6th. Just over 5 weeks old (a little early, as it turned out, but all has worked out OK). He is a charcoal Labrador Retriever, bred to the English standard. Somewhat rare, from what we've learned. A really cool little guy.
His name: Bogart. BTW, this photo won Bogart first prize in the 5th Annual Pet Contest at Shopdexter.com (link)
More soon.

I really have to get off my dead rear end...
and try to start using this site for something more than
an archive of old stuff.
I checked the referrer logs and am absolutely amazed that anybody other than random spammers still hit this site.
Lots going on right now ( I am trying to raise a new [19 week old] puppy) and lots coming very soon (my wife is pregnant with our first child and is due within a month), and I want to use this blog (and its sister site) to try to keep track of the thoughts and feelings and milestones
that seem to be coming in waves.
I'll try to bring it along. Let's see if I can get back into the habit.

Al "Grandpa Munster" Lewis, R.I.P.
Al Lewis, aka Grandpa Munster, died today at the age of 82 from complications due to emergency surgery. Monsters and Critics was the link I found.
I loved watching "The Munsters" as a child. On the air for only two years (1964-1966), it can still be found in syndication. I wonder how many episodes were actually shown in the 1966 season before I was born in July?
I never knew ol Grandpa had a Ph.D. in Child Psychology. Pretty cool, iff'n you ask me.
Rest in Peace, Al.

Geek Toy Coming!
Every now and then I scour eBay for a sign of the Lego(tm) Mars Explorer pictured above. When I happen to find them, they are often only used, or outrageously priced, or coming from either sellers outside the US (causing a large price), etc.
I finally found one this morning for a price I could deal with, new in the box, and from a seller with a good feedback rating. So, on a whim, I bought it.
858 pieces. Multiple moving gears. Push-button deployment of the solar panels.
Ahhh, sweet nerd-vana.
All of which reminds me that I need to get my Lego Millenium Falcon out of a box, and take it in to my office, where all of my truly geeky stuff gets displayed.

...Scene of the Crime: Revisited
I thought I'd update you on our trip out for our anniversary:
Apparently, Dan's River Grill is now closed for regular dining. The owners, as of the first of the year, are keeping the restaurant only for catering parties. Needless to say, we were quite bummed when we got there.
We headed up to Chelsea, hoping to get a table at "The Common Grill", only to be told that the wait was 90 minutes. we ended up having dinner at the pub across the street. OK food, but not the nice dinner we had planned for.
You know what they say: stuff happens.
